Transportation

Getting around town is fast and convenient when utilizing the following methods of transportation:

  • Metro Bus
  • Metro Rail
  • Taxi service
  • Personal automobile (car rental)
  • Bicycle

The most cost effective method would be to purchase a monthly pass on the Metro. A monthly pass costs $62.00 for full access on the entire MTA network which includes bus and rail.

According to metro.net,

Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) is unique among the nation's transportation agencies. It serves as transportation planner and coordinator, designer, builder and operator for one of the country's largest, most populous counties. More than 9.6 million people – nearly one-third of California's residents – live, work, and play within its 1,433-square-mile service area.

Important information to International Drivers

It is important to note that the State of California does not recognize the International Driving Permit (IDP). However, the State of California does recognize a valid driver license that is issued by a foreign jurisdiction (country, state, territory) of which the license holder is a resident.

For students interested in obtaining a driver's license issued by the State of California, you must apply directly with California State Department of Motor Vehicles at one of the local offices. Please note: Majority of international students receive temporary licenses until the DMV receives a copy of your I-20 from the Department of Homeland Security. Unfortunately, some students end up waiting too long for their permanent driver's license and end up completing their education courses.
