ISL teachers are native speakers and have degrees in teaching English as a Second Language. Our teachers use up-to-date, carefully selected materials which provide learners valuable information on modern-day culture and society while at the same time developing their language and communication skills.

Dean - Dr. Sabri Bebawi
Dr. Sabri Bebawi has been a college teacher for almost 20 years, educating students at many colleges and universities. His educational background includes law, journalism, and English education, with a Ph.D. in education and instructional technology. Dr. Bebawi has worked as a journalist in Europe and in the United States, writing on a wide range of topics.

Dr. Arik Greenberg
Dr. Arik Greenberg earned his B.A. with honors at Wesleyan University, M.A.T.S. at the Claremont School of Theology, and an M.A. and Ph.D. at Claremont Graduate University. As a former professor at Loyola Marymount University and other colleges, his teaching is innovative, engaging and inspiring. He had several publications and presentations at the international level. He loves to inspire and encourage students to enjoy learning for its own sake and to grow into socially responsible and compassionate young adults; to educate the whole person.

Melissa Crandall
Melissa Crandall earned her B.A. degree in Dramatic Art from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she studied Shakespeare intensively and tutored foreign students in English. She has been teaching Middle Eastern dance for 7 years, and publishes periodically on the subject. She takes a holistic approach to teaching, nurturing her students' minds with positive reinforcement for enhanced learning.

Alice S. Joh
Alice Joh earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education and Master of Science in Education in California State University, Fullerton. Mrs. Joh has over 10 years of teaching in English to non native speakers. Mrs. has also taught various courses such as Life Sciences, Applied Math and Language Arts in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Mrs. also loves to apply her literaray analysis to modern English texts.

Emily Chang
Emily Chang earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education and Master of TESOL in Azusa Pacific University. Mrs. Change has taught ESL to several high schools. Mrs. Chang's expertise includes creating student-oriented curriculum and integration of innovative teaching methods.

Shahnaz Alaei
Shahnaz Alaei earned her Masters of Science in Education in CSULA. Shahnaz Alaei's specialized focus includes Theory of Language, TESOL Methods and Techniques, Material and Assessment, Sociolinguistics, Curriculum development, as well as Culture and Languages. Shahnaz Alaei has previously taught at Long Beach City College, Rio Hondo College, and UCC Education Center. Shahnaz Alaei also holds a California Community College Instructor Credentials.
